Dr. Nagendra Shah

 

M.S, D.N.B., M.N.A.M.S., F.I.C.O., F.A.E.H.,

Dr. Nagendra B. Shah was born & brought up in very highly cultured and respected business family having interests in Building Constructions, which was headed by his father Mr. Bhogilal A. Shah.

Soon after his birth in Gujarat, his family shifted to Kandivali, Mumbai. Nagendra used to a topper in his school and consistently secured high grades in Science and Maths. This continued even in his college years, which he finished with a distinction. His performance continued to excel during his MBBS studies, which he finished with a First class.

After his MBBS, He pursued his Masters in Ophthalmology at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Belgaum, Karnataka. Subsequently he completed his D.N.B. in Ophthalmology and was awarded MNAMS degree by National Academy, New Delhi. He was very fortunate to receive his D.N.B. from the President of India, His Excellency, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, in a grand Convocation Ceremony at Cochin, Kerala, in the year 2003. He successfully completed challenging and prestigious Exams like ICO Basics and Refraction (Part I) & Clinical Sciences (Part II) with distinctions in 2001 & 2002 respectively.

He was fortunate to undergo the following training at a grand Institute in Eye Care called Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai, Tamilnadu.
1.) 2 months of extensive training in Indirect Ophthalmoscopy & Lasers in Diabetic retinopathy in August-September,1998.
2) 18 months Long Term fellowship in Super speciality of Orbit & Oculoplastics under great teachers like Dr. Usha Kim, Dr .William Stewart (California Pacific Center, UCSF, San Fransisco, USA) and Dr. Mark Duffy (University Of Illinios, Chicago).
3.) Worked as Medical Officer in same super speciality for 2 years and became High Volume, Quality Surgeon of all Anterior Segment surgeries like Phacoemulsification, Manual Phacos, etc) and a quality Ophthalmic Plastics & Reconstructive surgeon.

After his extensive training at Aravind, he was fortunate to be an observer to the following great teachers: 
1.) Dr. Jack Rootman, Professor of Orbit & Oncology services, Vancouver General Hospital, University of British Columbia, Canada.
2.) Dr. Don O. Kikkawa,Professor of Oculoplastics & Aesthetic Facial surgeries, Shiley Eye Center, La Jolla, University of California, San Diego, USA.

Currently, Dr. Shah is rendering his hard earned services with all honesty & loyalty to Bombay Hospital & will continue to do so in years to come in the upcoming "Taparia Institute of Ophthalmology" which is already foreseen as "Center of Excellence" in Eye Care Facilities not only in India but South Asia as well.
